Applesauce in a pinch!
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine
1 pound peeled and diced apples
(Macintosh, Fuji, or Gala are best)
¼ cup water,
2 teaspoons sugar,
⅛ teaspoon cinnamon.
Cover and microwave on high until the apples are tender,
8 to 10 minutes. Mash with a potato masher.
Use applesauce to sweeten oatmeal! After your oatmeal is cooked, stir in approximately two tablespoons of applesauce, let sit for a couple of minutes, then eat! The added applesauce gives cooked oatmeal a delightful texture and taste. If desired, add some raisins, too!
Rediscover cottage cheese! Add applesauce to a 1/2 cup of fat free cottage cheese---and enjoy!
Applesauce makes a nice side dish to pork! Try it---you'll be surprised how nicely the two complement each other.
Looking for a light snack? Need something that's either sweet or crunchy? Why not get both? Sprinkle Grape Nuts onto a small bowl of applesauce, let it sit a minute so that the Grape Nuts soften a bit---and then enjoy!
If a recipe calls for a cup of oil, use 1/2 cup oil and 1/2 cup applesauce!
